Brief von Irenes Tochter Esther an mich anläßlich Irenes 101. Geburtstag (Deutsche Übersetzung unter dem Bild unten)

Hi Peter and Cornelia,

First of all, thank you so much for your lovely birthday greetings for my mom. It is so hard to comprehend that she is 101 already. We are so incredibly blessed.
She is in good health. She did have a bout with Covid but seems to have come out of it no worse for the wear. Although her memory is failing, she still remembers me whenever I visit her, and she still has her awesome sense of humor. We enjoy looking at pictures together and even though she cannot hear, we communicate with the use of a whiteboard. She enjoys reading letters and cards that she gets and, in the moment, loves the connection. She still gives me words of advice like “remember to drink lots of carrot juice or look both ways before you cross the street. Her mothering instinct is as strong as ever.
She is happy where she is and that is so important to me. She no longer is looking for adventure. She told me that she has turned that page and is quite satisfied to stay put.
Thank you again for remembering her.

Hallo Peter und Cornelia,

zunächst einmal vielen Dank für Eure lieben Geburtstagsgrüße für meine Mutter. Es ist so schwer zu begreifen, dass sie schon 101 ist. Wir sind so unendlich gesegnet.
Sie ist bei guter Gesundheit. Sie hatte einen Anfall von Covid, aber es scheint, dass sie sich davon erholt hat. Obwohl ihr Gedächtnis nachlässt, erinnert sie sich immer noch an mich, wenn ich sie besuche, und sie hat immer noch ihren wunderbaren Sinn für Humor. Wir schauen uns gerne gemeinsam Bilder an, und obwohl sie nicht mehr hören kann, kommunizieren wir mit Hilfe eines Whiteboards. Sie liest gerne Briefe und Karten, die sie bekommt, und freut sich über die Verbindung.
